Egypt Treats More Than 2,200 Wounded from Gaza Amid Escalated Conflict

05 February

Egypt has admitted over 2,200 wounded individuals from the Gaza Strip for treatment since the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian  group Hamas has begun to escalate. This figure was disclosed by the office of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi following a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly and Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

President el-Sisi's spokesperson, Ahmed Fahmy, detailed on his Facebook page (banned in Russia, belongs to Meta corporation, which is considered extremist) that "Egyptian doctors have performed more than 1,200 surgical operations and provided comprehensive medical care to all those crossing the Rafah border crossing."

The Egyptian leader "praised the health sector's role in supporting the residents of Gaza" and emphasized "Egypt's efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis since the situation in the enclave escalated."

Additionally, discussions centered around plans to construct around 50 medical centers to alleviate the strain on Egypt's healthcare system. The president, prime minister, and health minister have agreed on a plan to establish 47 new medical facilities across Egypt's eight governorates.

Employees of the Egyptian ambulance service have reported that they evacuate between 30 to 50 people daily from the enclave. Some victims are taken to a hospital in El-Arish upon arrival in Egypt, where it has treated at least 420 wounded residents of the enclave since the fall of 2023. Severe cases are transferred to Cairo's medical centers for further treatment.
