African countries intend to look for a way out of the crisis around Ukraine, because this conflict greatly affects trade. Egypt's Ambassador to Moscow Nazih El-Nagari told TASS on Friday on the sidelines of the forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum."
Asked if the ambassador had contacts on organizing an African peacekeeping mission for a political settlement around Ukraine, he answered "yes".
"There have been contacts with a number of African countries on this issue. This issue is being discussed by a number of countries around the world. Of course, Africa intends to look for solutions for peace and stability in Europe and around the world. Because this (Ukrainian crisis - TASS) has an impact on trade, has an impact on African countries. But we are also looking for solutions that would take into account the interests of all parties, including Russia, of course," said the head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission.
On May 16, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that Russian and Ukrainian authorities had agreed to host a delegation of African countries to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Ramaphosa was speaking on behalf of a group of six African countries: Egypt, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Uganda, South Africa and Zambia. Consultations are now underway on the schedule for the trip. Zane Dangora, Director General of the South African Foreign Ministry, said May 17 that a delegation of the presidents of the six African states in question is ready to begin its mission in early June. According to Radio France internationale, the mission intends to first visit Kiev, where it will spend two days, and then Moscow.
