Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has described the current period as an extremely dangerous and pivotal moment in the history of the Middle East. In a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Cairo, el-Sisi emphasized the need for considerable self-control from the countries in the region to navigate this critical time.
"The Middle East is facing an exceptionally perilous and crucial moment that demands a high level of self-control and adherence to reason," el-Sisi's spokesman, Ahmed Fahmy, relayed on his Facebook page (banned in Russia and owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia). The Egyptian leader also stressed that "a key step toward de-escalation is the immediate establishment of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," which would pave the way for political and diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
El-Sisi noted that Cairo has repeatedly warned about the dangers of escalating military confrontation in the region, which could jeopardize security not only in the Middle East but globally. During the meeting, both sides agreed that the current situation is "extremely serious" and condemned "Israeli policies that contribute to further escalation."
