An international gas hub will be created in Turkey as soon as possible. The most suitable place for it is the Thrace region in the European part of the country, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commenting on the results of the talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Astana on October 13 where the matter was discussed.
"The most suitable place for a hub is Thrace. Together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, we have instructed the energy ministers to start the relevant work. We have a national [gas] distribution center, but this will be an international one. No delays are out of the question; our partners will conduct the necessary negotiations and begin work immediately. All the necessary measures will be taken on the issue of security, we are carrying out preliminary works in this direction," Erdogan told reporters from the presidential pool upon his return from Astana. TRT TV channel quoted him as saying on Friday.
