Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that BRICS, amid international turbulence, is making a unique contribution to building a just global order. He made these remarks in Kazan during the BRICS Plus outreach session.
“In today's world, social and economic vulnerabilities are growing, and the balance of power is shifting. The political and financial mechanisms, which are products of the post-World War II era, are no longer delivering what is expected of them. Turkey firmly believes that a more just world is possible. We are facing numerous challenges, and Turkey is determined to foster dialogue with BRICS, with which we have developed close relations, based on mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation. This platform plays a unique role in building a just global order,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish leader added that his country places great importance on uniting with friends on multilateral platforms and finding common-sense solutions to shared problems. “The combination of these two aspects can lead to the growth of trade, economic progress, and sustainable development. That is why we consider the theme of strengthening multilateral cooperation for fair global development and security to be extremely relevant,” Erdogan emphasized.
He also reminded the audience that Turkey is a co-founder of many international organizations, “including the Council of Europe, as well as several regional organizations like the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).” Erdogan noted that Turkey is an active member of the G20 and MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Turkey, and Australia) and that the country continues to strengthen partnerships with the African Union, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
