Erdogan Calls for Israel's Isolation and Arms Embargo

11 November

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the imposition of an arms embargo on Israel, the cessation of trade with the country, and subsequent international isolation.

“Israel's goal is to settle in Gaza, destroy the Palestinian entity in the West Bank, and eventually annex it. This is what it is moving towards,” Erdoğan stated. “We must prevent this.” He lamented the insufficient response from Muslim countries and criticized the unwavering support provided to Israel by a “handful of Western nations.”

“It is imperative that we continue to coordinate our initiatives to take coercive measures against those committing genocide in Palestine. Imposing an arms embargo, ending trade, and isolating Israel is paramount,” Erdogan said during the joint summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh.

According to him, Turkey's initiative at the UN to impose an arms embargo on Israel has been supported by 52 countries and 2 international organizations. “We must call on as many countries, especially UN members, to intervene in the case (of genocide) brought (by South Africa) against Israel at the International Court. We are ready to implement all specific and realistic proposals that will make the Netanyahu government feel the cost of occupying Palestinian lands,” Erdogan added.

In Erdogan's view, the solution to the Palestinian issue can only be achieved on a two-state basis. “We all see that achieving a solution in any other way is impossible. In the current situation, we must encourage as many countries as possible to recognize Palestine. I pray to the Almighty that OIC and the Arab League demonstrate to the world that they stand united. I believe that resistance in the UN Security Council will be overcome, and we will see the day when the State of Palestine becomes a UN member,” Erdogan said.

He announced that Turkey has already sent over 84,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza and is ready to send more if restrictions are lifted. Erdogan also accused Israel of hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave. “Israel cannot accept the delivery of even humanitarian aid to Gaza and has been holding humanitarian cargo in Egypt for several months,” Erdogan said.
