Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded to praise from Russian leader Vladimir Putin by calling the level of relations between Ankara and Moscow "a great rarity."

During a large press conference, Putin said he and his Turkish counterpart sometimes have opposing views on certain issues, but this is a man who keeps his word, "doesn't wag his tail."

"These statements by Putin apply in the same way to himself. That's how I've known him since I first met him. He is an honest man, he keeps his word, and the development of our relations shows that with almost no other state we have such strong ties, which is very rare. I hope that the level of our relations will remain the same in the future. If you look at our trade balance, you can see that we are moving toward our goals with determination," Erdogan told reporters.
