Erdogan Set to Launch 'Global Initiative' on Gaza

09 November 2023

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his intention to initiate a "global initiative" aimed at resolving the crisis in Gaza.

This initiative, as reported by the pro-government newspaper Hurriyet, follows Erdogan's statements during a meeting of the executive committee of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party on November 7.

Erdogan emphasized the importance of securing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and preventing the actions that Israel is currently undertaking in the Palestinian enclave.

"I am launching a new program with the objective of preventing further crimes against humanity in Gaza. I will reach out to world leaders, engage in negotiations, and, if necessary, hold meetings with them. My intention is to initiate a collaborative global effort for Gaza alongside other leaders, presidents, and prime ministers," Erdogan stated, as reported by the newspaper.

According to Hurriyet, Erdogan plans to initiate a "global initiative" following the upcoming summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah, scheduled for November 12 (Saudi Arabia).

Erdogan made this announcement during a rally in Istanbul on October 28, expressing Turkey's intention to label Israel as a war criminal in support of Palestine.
