Erdogan: Turkey Will Not Approve Cooperation Between Israel and NATO

12 July

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey will not endorse any NATO cooperation options with Israel due to its actions in the Gaza Strip and its behavior on the international stage.

"Israel has persistently failed to comply with the measures of the UN International Court of Justice, where it is being tried on genocide charges, and has not implemented the decisions of the UN Security Council. The administration of [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is jeopardizing the security of not only its citizens but the entire region with its expansionist and reckless policies. We are faced with a violent structure that does not recognize any laws, order, values, or borders, including the laws of war. I have to point out that NATO-Israel cooperation, which there is some talk about inside NATO, will not be approved from our side," Erdogan said at a press conference after attending the North Atlantic Alliance summit in Washington. The broadcast was carried on social media by the Turkish leader's administration.

"In the current circumstances, when people around the world are taking to the streets to stop attacks on Palestinian civilians, continuing military support for Israel is unacceptable. In my speech at the NATO meeting, I emphasized this issue. The Israeli administration, which has trampled on the core values of our alliance, cannot maintain a partnership with NATO," Erdogan emphasized.
