Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Western nations, particularly the United States, to intervene and halt Israel's actions in Syria before it is too late.
"There is a significant responsibility on Western nations, especially the US, to stop Israel. The unacceptability of Israel's occupation of Syrian territory must be voiced in the strongest terms. Israel’s aggression, which threatens peace and stability in our region, must be halted now, before it leads to greater harm tomorrow. If not, the Israeli boomerang will eventually target those who support it unconditionally. Those who ignored our warnings yesterday now see we were right. To avoid regret tomorrow, I urge them to heed our warnings today and take the necessary steps," Erdogan stated to reporters after returning from Cairo, where he participated in the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation summit. His remarks were reported by TRT Haber.
Erdogan criticized Israel for consistently violating international law, citing its actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and now Syria. He pointed to UN Security Council Resolution 242 from 1967, which condemns Israel’s occupation of the Golan Heights and demands its withdrawal from the region.
"Israel has made it a habit to disregard international law. It violated international law in Gaza while the world remained silent. It occupied territory in Lebanon, shed blood, and again, the world stayed quiet. Today, Syria is a victim of Israel's recklessness," Erdogan emphasized.
The Turkish president urged the international community to enforce this resolution and prevent further Israeli actions. "We will continue to corner Israel on all fronts and compel it to act in accordance with international law. However, it is crucial to effectively utilize all international mechanisms to prevent Israel from exploiting the situation in Syria," he concluded.
