Expert: Russia Could Enhance Palestinian Unity and Aid in De-escalating Middle East Tensions

14 August

Professor Liu Zhongmin from the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies at Shanghai International Studies University believes that Russia could play a significant role in de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and promoting unity among Palestinian factions.

Commenting on the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, Liu observed, "If tensions between Israel and Iran escalate or lead to a large-scale confrontation, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will become even more complex and challenging to resolve," as reported by Global Times.

Liu suggests that "Abbas may hope for Russia's influence over Iran to help ease the current tensions." Additionally, the professor speculates that Abbas "might seek Russia's assistance in fostering greater unity among Palestinian factions."

Liu highlighted that the Palestinian-Israeli issue "has grown increasingly complex, with conflicts unfolding on multiple levels."
