Export flight from Africa delivered 197 Russians to Moscow

20 July 2020

A plane carrying Russians returning home from several African countries and Jordan landed on Monday at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.

The flight delivered 197 citizens to Russia and completed a series of flights organized due to the coronavirus pandemic to take Russians home. In addition, five citizens of Ukraine and three citizens of Kazakhstan arrived in Moscow by this plane.

"A plane with 205 people on board has just landed. These are not only Russian citizens, but also citizens of other countries who were able to return on this flight from African countries, first of all, and the last stop we had in Jordan, said acting Deputy head of the Department of information and press of the Russian Foreign Ministry Denis Mikerin. "The organization of this flight was possible thanks to the interaction of the Foreign Ministry with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), because the flight was performed with the direct financial assistance of the RSPP."

The diplomat added that among those who returned most of all were Moscow citizens - 38 people. The other passengers are residents of Saint Petersburg, Samara, Nizhnevartovsk and other Russian cities. As Mikerin noted, Moscow residents would go to 14-day self-isolation, and residents of other regions would be placed in observatories in the Moscow region.

According to Russian diplomats, the plane spent 100 hours on the way and took Russians from six African countries (Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Tanzania, Uganda), as well as from Jordan. A reinforced crew worked on the liner.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Russia has closed international air traffic since March 27. Only flights to return the passengers home are allowed.
