The US strike on Syria is illegitimate, the territory of a sovereign state has been bombed, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov told RIA Novosti.
According to the senator, in this situation, it is not ruled out Syria's appeal to the UN Security Council to discuss the situation at an emergency meeting.
"Syria has every right to do so," Dzhabarov said.
"What happened is very dangerous and could lead to an escalation of the situation in the entire region," the senator said.
As Dzhabarov stressed, such actions could lead to a "huge conflict."
"Syria has modern weapons, including S-300 installations, and the Americans should be extremely careful with such actions," Dzhabarov said.
He noted that all the details of what has happened are not yet clear, so only a preliminary analysis of the situation can be made now. "But so far it all looks very dangerous," the senator said.
At the same time, the parliamentarian drew attention to the fact that the facilities of the Iranian-backed militia were hit.
"But these are not terrorists, these are militias, and there is no reason for bombing here. The impression is that the US is not interested in fighting terrorists in Syria, but in fomenting this conflict there so that it smolders there uninterruptedly," Dzhabarov suggested.
