Federation Council forms delegation to monitor Syrian presidential elections

The Federation Council has formed a delegation to monitor the presidential elections in Syria, it will be headed by a member of the Committee on Defense and Security Sergey Muratov, Grigory Karasin, head of the FC Committee on International Affairs, told TASS.


"A delegation of the Federation Council will observe the elections in Syria. It has already been formed. It will be headed by Sergey Muratov, who is the head of the group for cooperation with the SAR parliament," he said.


According to Karasin, the delegation includes members of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vadim Dengin and Oleg Seleznev, as well as a staff member. "Representatives from the Civic Chamber Maksim Grigoryev and Mikhail Anichkin will fly with them," the head of the FFC International Committee added.


The presidential elections will be held in Syria on May 26. Three candidates are running for president: acting President Bashar al-Assad, former state minister and MP Abdallah Salloum Abdallah and representative of the patriotic opposition Mahmoud Ahmed Mourayi, who heads the Syrian Democratic Front.


The election campaign began on May 16 and will run through May 24. May 25 has been declared the silence day, when all campaign activities of the candidates and their media appearances are halted.
