The Council of the International Football Federation (FIFA) will convene before July 20, 2024, to consider the Palestinian Football Association's demand to suspend the membership of the Israeli Football Federation. This announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok.
Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub called for the temporary suspension of Israel's membership in FIFA. Infantino responded by emphasizing that all requests from the Palestinian representative fall under the jurisdiction of the FIFA Council, which will address them accordingly.
"It is important to emphasize that all requests for speech by the Palestinian representative fall under the competence of the FIFA council, so must be dealt with within that body," - Infantino stated. - "Given the sensitive nature, FIFA will commission independent legal experts to evaluate the requests made in the speech of the Palestinian representative. We must give both sides, the member associations, the opportunity to express themselves and the results of the analysis will be sent to the FIFA Council. At the same time, given the urgency of the situation, an extraordinary FIFA Council will be set up before July 20, i.e., in the next two months, to take appropriate measures."
The decision to expedite the review process reflects the urgency and sensitivity of the issue, with FIFA aiming to ensure a fair and thorough examination of the Palestinian representative's demands.
