The first batch of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V was delivered to the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian news agency Maan reported on Wednesday.
According to its information, the shipment arrived from the city of Ramallah (the administrative center of the West Bank) to the Beit Hanoun checkpoint in the Gaza Strip. It is noted that the delivery of the Russian drug to the Palestinian enclave became possible after the approval of the Israeli authorities.
On Monday, Palestinian Health Minister May Qayle said that Israeli authorities did not allow the shipment to enter the Strip. According to her, the drug was intended to vaccinate health workers.
On January 11, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) informed about the registration of Sputnik V by the Ministry of Health of the State of Palestine. It was noted that this was done in the framework of an accelerated procedure without conducting additional clinical trials in the Palestinian territory. According to the RDIF, deliveries of the drug "are scheduled for the first quarter of this year".
