"Five" and Iran to discuss nuclear deal

26 February 2020

The meeting of the Joint Commission of Iran and the Five international mediators, which includes Russia, Great Britain, Germany, China and France, will take place in Vienna today.

The event will review the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.

Helga Schmid, Secretary-General of the EU Foreign Policy Service, will chair the Commission's meeting. The Russian delegation will be headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov.

Yesterday, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the meeting of the Joint Commission in Vienna gives a chance to stop the process of escalation.

The Iranian nuclear deal, according to the Russian Foreign Minister, is a unique achievement of multilateral diplomacy, "which is being destroyed today as a result of the complete rejection of the US from its international legal obligations and the inability of European colleagues to fulfill their part of the obligations."
