Foreign Airlines Cancel Flights to Somalia Amid Security Concerns

09 April

Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Fly Dubai have suspended flights to the international airport of Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, as reported by the Horseed Media portal. Additionally, there are no departures from Mogadishu airport.

The day prior, the US embassy in Somalia issued a warning about the threat of terrorist attacks in various parts of Mogadishu, including the airport, and announced the cancellation of "any movement of embassy personnel" for April 9.

Local media reports indicate that Somalia's president's residence came under mortar fire last night, with three shells exploding near the palace. No casualties were reported. Military personnel in armored vehicles are patrolling the streets of the city, and additional roadblocks have been set up. There were no official reports about this incident.

According to the Baidoa portal, militants from the al-Shabaab terrorist organization have recently seized several towns near Mogadishu.
