25 March 2020

Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif held telephone talks. The main topic of discussion was the situation with the coronavirus pandemic.

"We highly appreciate the bilateral cooperation in countering this global challenge. The notes on relevant measures and initiatives at the sites of international organizations, including the UN were checked", the message reads.

The Russian side, as noted, confirmed its intention to continue the comprehensive development of Russian-Iranian trade and economic ties and investment projects, including assistance in increasing the supply of agricultural products.

Lavrov stressed that "the Russian Federation strongly calls on Washington to immediately lift its anti-human rights sanctions that prevent the relevant governments from fully fighting COVID-19".
