Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation  with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu at the initiative of the Turkish side.

The parties, according to the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, comprehensively reviewed the progress of the Syrian settlement, paying special attention to the current situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

"They reaffirmed the need  to strictly comply with bilateral agreements, above all those reached following the meeting of the two countries’ presidents in Sochi.  In this context, the officials stressed the need to separate the moderate opposition forces from terrorists and immediately put an end to provocations against the Syrian civilians and army," the message reads.

In addition, the ministers discussed "further practical steps of the Astana Process guarantor countries to normalise the situation on the ground and promote the efforts of the Syrian Constitutional Committee".

"They once again reaffirmed that there was no alternative to a comprehensive solution of the Syrian crisis by political and diplomatic means".
