The Special Representative of the Russian President, Director of the second Department of Asia, Zamir Kabulov, called the new publication of the American media about Moscow's "collusion" with the Taliban a continuation of the internal party struggle in the United States.
"We have already commented on the New York Times publication. Too much hype is being created around outright falsehoods, which even Trump and his administration have denied. < ... > I think it is shameful for us to spend too much time commenting on outright lies. It is clear that there are forces in the United States that do not want to leave Afghanistan, they want to justify their own failure. This is what everything revolves around, " Kabulov said.
Last week, the New York Times, citing anonymous US intelligence officials, published an article claiming that Russian military intelligence offered rewards to Taliban-linked militants for attacks on us soldiers in Afghanistan. No evidence was provided. After that, the Russian Embassy in the United States announced threats against diplomats.
The Foreign Ministry, in turn, called the publication a fake. The White House also criticized the article, noting that the intelligence service did not report anything like this, and according to Donald Trump himself, the publication was commissioned. Later, there was a rebuttal from the Taliban.
Nevertheless, on Monday night, the Washington Post came out with another article on the same topic, where again, with reference to unnamed sources, it was claimed that several US servicemen were allegedly killed in Afghanistan because of Moscow's "collusion" with the Taliban.
