Moscow rejects reports of alleged involvement of the Chechen authorities in the murder of a Chechen blogger near Vienna, such speculation is inappropriate and only hinders an objective investigation, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

"Currently, the circumstances of the incident are being clarified, including clarification of the citizenship of the deceased and the detainees. The Russian Embassy in Austria actively cooperates with the competent structures of this state," Zakharova said at a briefing.

"Various versions of the incident and the background of the crime are circulating in the press. The possibility of criminal motives is not excluded, and we regret to note that a number of publications have speculated about the possible involvement of the Chechen Republic's official authorities in the murder. We reject these insinuations in the strongest possible way and consider such speculation inappropriate and interfering with an objective investigation, " she added.
