06 April 2020

Russia and Armenia, as well as other CSTO members, support an early settlement of the Syrian conflict as a result of a political process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the UN, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told the Armenian newspaper Novoye Vremya.

"Our countries stand for achieving lasting and long-term stability and security in Syria while continuing the fight against terrorists recognized as such by the UN Security Council, up to their complete destruction. Moscow and Yerevan are committed to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the SAR. At the same time, both countries attach great importance to humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need without discrimination and preconditions, as well as assistance to the voluntary, safe and dignified return of refugees and temporarily displaced persons to their places of permanent residence," the diplomat said.

Rudenko stressed that Russia highly appreciates the contribution of the Armenian side, which delivers humanitarian supplies to Syria, in particular to the Aleppo region, works on mine clearance and elimination of explosive substances, and provides medical assistance.
