20 December 2023

During their meeting, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Tanju Bilgic emphasized the urgent necessity of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"In a comprehensive discussion, the parties addressed the ongoing deliberations in the UN Security Council and General Assembly on Middle East issues, with a specific focus on the escalating violence in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Both sides underscored the urgent necessity to halt the bloodshed through an immediate and widespread ceasefire," stated the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a release.

Both parties emphasized the critical importance of establishing unhindered and extensive humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip. They also highlighted the need to prevent the crisis from spreading to other countries in the region.

Additionally, discussions included the unimpeded supply of agricultural products and fertilizers, with a focus on ensuring global food security. The possibility of gratuitously transferring Russian grain fertilizers to the poorest countries was also addressed during the meeting, which took place on December 18 at the request of the Turkish side.
