Moscow sees good prospects for further deepening mutually beneficial ties with Southeast Asian countries. "We see good prospects for further deepening mutually beneficial ties with all Southeast Asian countries united in the influential Association of Southeast Asian Nations," the statement said.
According to the diplomatic office, Moscow is also determined to cooperate effectively with Bangkok, Jakarta and Phnom Penh as the current chairs of APEC, G20 and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) respectively and supports the association's leading role in seeking constructive forms of international assistance to resolve the situation in Myanmar. "We are ready, together with ASEAN partners, to provide humanitarian assistance to this country, including making a practical contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," the Russian MFA said in a statement.
The foreign ministry also noted the significant potential for cooperation with Southeast Asian countries in politics and security, trade and economic and scientific-technological areas. "We hope for the expansion of the cultural and humanitarian component of bilateral relations, the resumption of tourist exchanges, which have suffered over the past two years from the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection," the Russian MFA added. - "We plan to hold regular meetings of intergovernmental commissions, MFA consultations and other high-level contacts with many countries of Southeast Asia. In July we plan to celebrate the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Thailand".
