The social and economic consequences of the pandemic in some countries may lead to radicalization of the population and create additional conditions for terrorists to recruit new supporters. This warning was issued by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov at the OSCE anti-terrorist conference held in virtual format. The text of his speech was provided to TASS by the permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the OSCE.

As the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation pointed out, in the context of the spread of the coronavirus infection, the threat of terrorism has not just faded into the background, but, on the contrary, is taking on a new dimension. "As a result of the introduction at the beginning of this year by the governments of most states of the regime of restrictions and reduction of social activity,  terrorists "went" to the Internet and social networks, and use contactless methods of spreading fake information, call for terror and violence of various ideological persuasions has increased, " Syromolotov said.

"We cannot exclude that in the future, the social and economic consequences of the coronacrisis in a number of countries around the world may turn into radicalization of the population, create additional opportunities for terrorist organizations to recruit new supporters, conduct terrorist attacks and information and propaganda actions," the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
