28 November 2019

Russia strives for mutual understanding with the Islamic world and supports its values and traditions, former Ambassador of Egypt to Russia Ezzat Saad said today at the V annual meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia – Islamic world".

Muslims and Christians in Russia, he said, have always lived in peace and harmony beside each other.

The diplomat also told about his memories of Yevgeny Primakov, and the meeting that started today, among other things, is dedicated to his 90th anniversary.

"Primakov certainly had a great talent. A politician, scientist, diplomat, journalist, he was an important element in solving the problems of the Middle East. When I was Ambassador of Egypt to Russia, I always advised my colleagues to meet with Primakov and discuss the most important problems of the Middle East and the world. All his positions are characterized by balance and depth. He understood the importance of the region. I consider myself a student of Primakov in international politics, " the Egyptian diplomat said.

Today, the V annual meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision (GSV) "Russia-Islamic world" has started its work in Ufa.  The main topic of discussion is " Interfaith harmony:  the experience of Russia and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)".

The forum will also include a ceremony of the International Primakov Award.
