FSB Prevents Armed Attack on Moscow Synagogue by IS Members

07 March

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has successfully thwarted an armed attack on a synagogue in Moscow, neutralizing a cell of the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) in the Kaluga region. This information was disclosed to TASS by the FSB Public Relations Center (PRC).

"In the Kaluga region, the activities of a cell of the Wilayat Khorasan cell of the international terrorist organization 'Islamic State,' banned in Russia, which was planning to carry out a terrorist act against a Jewish religious institution in Moscow, have been suppressed," the PRC reported.

The FSB's investigative unit in the Kaluga region initiated a criminal case under parts 1 and 2 of Article 30, and parts 2 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation for a terrorist act). During the investigation, firearms, ammunition, and components for making a homemade explosive device were discovered at the residence of the radicals in the Kaluga region.

"Upon detention, the terrorists resisted the Russian FSB officers with arms and were neutralized by return fire," the PRC noted.
