The membership of the African Union (AU) in the Group of Twenty (G20) will be considered at the G20 Summit to be held in India in 2023, President of Senegal, current chairperson of the African Union Macky Sall said on Wednesday evening, Agence de Presse Senegalise (APS) reports.

"I thank the G20 members who, during the Bali summit in Indonesia, supported the AU's candidacy for membership in the G20. The AU membership will be considered at the G20 summit in India in 2023," he said.

Sall thanked French President Emmanuel Macron "for the consultations he initiated on November 14 and 15 in the margins of the G20 summit on access to grains and fertilizers, among other topics, in the context of the war in Ukraine."

The AU head welcomed his November 15 meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Bali summit. "I welcome China's excellent cooperation with Africa, and with Senegal in particular, as well as our convergence of views on major issues of common interest," he stressed.
