Traditional values are an important factor in rapprochement between Russia and the Islamic world. This was stated by Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, speaking at a meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" entitled "Russia - Islamic World: traditional spiritual and moral values as a basis for interreligious cooperation". The event takes place in the Kazan Town Hall as part of the XIV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum".
The religious figure reminded that Russia has for centuries been formed as a union of different nations on the basis of Orthodoxy and Islam. The amendments to the Constitution of Russia adopted in 2020 on the initiative of President Vladimir Putin improved the legislation in the sphere of protection of traditional spiritual and moral values and were jointly supported by the Muslim ummah of Russia and received a positive response in the Islamic world.
In particular, the Russian constitution now protects the institution of marriage as the union of a man and a woman; the amendments also mention faith in God, which Russia passed on to its ancestors. This is fully consistent with the sacred writings of all traditional religions, Gaynutdin stressed.
"Traditional values are an important factor in the rapprochement of Russia and Muslim states," he added, expressing the hope that the activities of the GSV and KazanForum will continue to contribute to the strengthening of ties between Russia and the Islamic world. The mufti reminded that, despite the pressure, none of the countries of the Islamic world imposed sanctions against Russia and showed no hostility in relation to it. According to the religious figure, Muslim countries perceive Russia as a partner and a friend and understand Russia's role in world politics and economy.
