The largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip and the central hospital in its capital, Al-Shifa, are at risk of becoming a "mass grave" due to the lack of electricity, warns Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, a physician at the hospital, in a statement to CNN.
"If there is no electricity, this hospital will turn into a mass grave," he warned. The doctor explained that the hospital is currently operating with only one of its two generators, primarily due to a shortage of fuel. The ongoing electricity shortage also hinders the safe performance of certain medical procedures.
Abu Sittah expressed the concern that if the hospital's management cannot maintain the operation of ventilators and ensure the full functionality of operating rooms for critically injured patients, these individuals "will have no option but to come to the hospital with little hope of survival."
On October 27, the Israel Defense Forces Press Service claimed that the main command headquarters of the Palestinian group Hams was located within the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital. The Israeli military reported that there were several underground complexes used by militants for military purposes and a tunnel providing access to the headquarters without passing through the hospital itself.
According to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, as of November 2, the number of casualties resulting from the Israeli aggression has risen to 9,061.
