Gazprom presented its concept of gas hub in Turkey

09 June 2023

Gazprom presented to Turkey its concept of a gas hub in the republic, the parameters and principles of its operation, the Russian holding said in its annual report.

"Since October 2022, PJSC Gazprom jointly with its Turkish partners has been working on creating a gas hub in Turkey. The Russian side presented its concept of creating a gas hub, parameters and principles of its operation," the document said.

In late May President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he was still determined to make the project of a gas hub in the country, initiated earlier by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In October 2022 Putin put forward the idea of creating a hub on the Turkish territory, where the lost volume of transit through the "Nord Stream" could be redirected. According to him, this is a possibility of building another pipeline system and creating a center in the republic, through which the gas will be delivered to third countries, especially the European ones, if they are interested in it.

The Turkish side noted that it had almost all the infrastructure ready to implement the hub project, but it was necessary to make amendments to the legislation. The first legislative decisions were made in early April and concerned the activities of the Botas Turkish oil and gas company and other suppliers.
