13 December 2022

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan plans to take measures against smog in the capital and allocate $20 million to improve the environmental situation in the city. The government press service said this on Tuesday, following a special meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev.

"Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Torobaev held a special meeting on the development of effective measures aimed at combating smog in major cities of the countries," the report said. According to the Ministry of natural resources of Kyrgyzstan, a program to improve the environmental situation in Bishkek, which is traditionally one of the ten cities in the world with the most polluted air at the start of the heating season, has already been developed.

In particular, the so-called green zones will be created in the capital, where only electric public transport will operate. "As part of the pilot project, it is planned to start with 200 electric cab cars and 100 electric minibuses. It is also planned to introduce "green" routes. The implementation of the above projects is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023, which will require about 20 million dollars," indicated in the press service.

There are plans to optimize the work of the capital's CHP and install special nanoadditives in 500 multi-story houses in Bishkek. "This technology has already been tested in a number of cities in the Russian Federation, and its use has helped reduce heat loss by up to 40 percent," the cabinet assured. In addition, the government wants to switch all state and municipal transport to NGV fuel, and the boiler houses, which now run on coal, to natural gas.
