Former journalist and State Duma Deputy Yevgeny Primakov appointed head of the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, compatriots living abroad, and international humanitarian cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).
This decree of President Vladimir Putin was published on the official Internet portal of legal information. Another decree removed Eleonora Mitrofanova from this position.
Yevgeny Primakov is 44 years old. He is the grandson and namesake of former Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov, Sr.
In 1999, he graduated from the faculty of history and philology of RSGU with a degree in history. Then he worked for Echo Moskvy, TASS, and print media. Since 2002, he had worked on TV channels TVC, NTV, channel One and Rossiya 24.
From 2011 to 2014, he worked for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees in Turkey and Jordan. He was elected to the state Duma in 2018 and has worked on the International Affairs Committee until now.
Today, Yevgeny Primakov said that the Federal Agency is "waiting for very big changes", and he hopes to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov tomorrow, with whom he will discuss "all the necessary procedures" after his appointment.
"I will not disclose the plans yet, but I can only say that Rossotrudnichestvo is waiting for very big changes," Primakov told RIA Novosti.
"I have not yet seen Sergey Viktorovich (Lavrov), I hope to see him tomorrow to discuss all the necessary procedures, and I will work," he added.
