The meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" with the ambassadors of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which will sum up the results of GSV work over the past two years, will be held in Moscow on June 9. This was reported at an online briefing by the Special Representative of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Organizations of Muslim States, Deputy Chairman of the GSV "Russia-Islamic World" Konstantin Shuvalov.
The speaker reminded that the last meeting of the Group was held in 2019 and was a presentation of its activities, including its goals and strategy. This time, the meeting will be devoted to summarizing the results of the activities of the GSV for the past two years and will be informational in nature.
"We will now talk about how these two years have gone, how we have maintained our activities and continued them as much as possible in the face of a pandemic, when international contacts were seriously affected and the multilateral actions and activities that the Group is engaged in were hampered," explained the diplomat.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be the guest of honor at the upcoming meeting. The event will be chaired by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan and Chairman of the GSV "Russia-Islamic World". The participants will include heads of representations of Muslim states in Russia, representatives of authorities, scientists and heads of Islamic religious organizations.
Shuvalov said the purpose of the meeting was to inform the leaders of Muslim countries through their ambassadors in Moscow about the existence of the Group, to draw attention to the opportunities offered by cooperation with it, and to tell about the plans of the GSV for the near future.
Talking about the activities of the "Russia-Islamic World" Group, the diplomat recalled that the group is not an international organization or a discussion platform, as it was declared during its formation. Now, in accordance with the new strategy, the group is a broad platform of various initiatives, mostly along non-governmental lines, whose overall objective is to promote Russia's relations with the Muslim countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Today, the GSV "Russian-Islamic World" includes 33 representatives from 27 Muslim states. At the same time, as Konstantin Shuvalov stressed, the group is open to all countries, as well as Russian subjects of activity in the field of relations with the states of the Islamic world.
