On November 26, 2023, the Group of Strategic Vision (GSV) "Russia-Islamic World" participated in the International Forum on "The Role of Media in Inciting Hatred and Violence - The Danger of Misinformation and Bias". The forum was organized by the Muslim World League and the Union of OIC News Agencies comprising 57 nations.
Leaders of international organizations, ministers, senior diplomats, religious figures, intellectuals, Islamic and international media leaders, as well as representatives of international news agencies from Asia, Europe, and America gathered in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The conference saw participation from more than 300 attendees representing 70 countries.
The forum was held under the patronage of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars. Minister Ahmed Assaf, Inspector General of Official Media in the State of Palestine, was the guest of honor at the meeting.
The primary objective of the forum was to discuss the theme of solidarity in confronting bias and misinformation in the media, particularly concerning the Palestinian issue.
The forum comprised a plenary session and four sessions that delved into various aspects. Discussions included the role of religious organizations in combating intolerance and hatred in the media space, condemnation of bias in the coverage of events in Gaza by Western media, raising the issue of journalistic responsibility for content produced, and exploring the prospect of collaborative efforts between news and religious organizations to enhance the credibility and quality of news products.
A representative from the Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications "Tatmedia" delivered a speech at the forum and extended an invitation to the guests to attend KazanForum 2024.
Representatives from the Russian side included participants from the international news agency Sputnik, the RT TV channel network, as well as the head of the Council for Cooperation with the Islamic World under the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church.
As a result of the conference, the Media Responsibility Charter was adopted.
