Hamas has accused Israel of attempting to circumvent the terms of the Gaza Strip deal, which encompasses a permanent ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave and the repatriation of temporarily displaced persons. This claim was made by the Palestinian movement Hamas.
"The Hamas movement has shown the necessary adaptability to reach an agreement that ensures a complete halt to aggression against our people. However, the occupier (referring to Israel - TASS) persists in trying to avoid the terms of this agreement, particularly those concerning a permanent ceasefire, the return of displaced persons, the withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip, and ensuring the needs of our people are met," the movement stated in a declaration published on its Telegram channel. Hamas reiterated its commitment to continuing negotiations through mediators to achieve an agreement that aligns with the "demands and interests" of the Palestinian people.
On March 4, Al-Ghad TV channel, citing a source, reported that the parties involved in the Gaza truce talks made substantial progress during the first day of consultations in Cairo. According to the channel, representatives from Egypt, Qatar, the US, and Hamas are continuing the discussions with the goal of reaching a ceasefire agreement before the commencement of the month of Ramadan. The Israeli delegation, however, is not participating in the ongoing round, which began on March 3.
Al Hadath TV reported on March 2 that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement on the duration of the proposed Gaza truce and the conditions for exchanging hostages for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. The source added that to finalize the agreement, a consensus must be reached on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the northern part of the enclave and the return of residents to those areas. According to Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya, Egypt, Qatar, and the US proposed a week-long ceasefire in exchange for the release of several elderly hostages held in the enclave. It was noted that Hamas representatives disagree with the proposal for a brief cessation of hostilities and persist in advocating for a longer ceasefire.
