Hamas blames Israel for escalation in Gaza and Jerusalem

07 April 2023

The Palestinian movement Hamas blamed Israel for the escalation in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

"The Zionist occupation bears full responsibility for the dangerous escalation and blatant aggression against the Gaza Strip and our Palestinian people, as well as for what will happen in the region," Hamas said.

"This brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip and the continued violations in Jerusalem and around Al-Aqsa will not provide the occupation forces with security, victory or the right to our land, our Jerusalem and our al-Aqsa," the movement stressed. Hamas called on the Palestinian people, factions and resistance forces to "unite in open battle to confront the occupiers."

Some time ago, Israeli aircraft launched air strikes on the northern and central parts of the enclave. Israeli planes attacked facilities of the Palestinian movement Hamas, which controls the Strip. In central Gaza, the Israeli Air Force attacked the positions of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas' military wing - TASS). The explosions took place near the administrative center of Gaza City, as well as in the Beit Hanoun neighborhood in the north of the enclave.

In response, Palestinian groups launched two rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip against Israeli settlements close to the enclave.
