Hamas Declares It Will Not Govern Gaza Alone

20 January

The Palestinian organization Hamas has announced that it does not intend to govern the Gaza Strip independently. Instead, it plans to establish a technocratic team to manage the region, Muhammad Nazzal, a member of Hamas's political bureau, told in an interview with Anadolu Agency.

“We aim to form a team of technocrats capable of governing Gaza. Of course, we are not suggesting that Hamas will govern Gaza on its own. The team, which will include representatives from all Palestinian factions, will be responsible for managing the region. Our consultations on this matter with all Palestinian parties are ongoing,” Nazzal said.

He also revealed plans to establish an international organization dedicated to assisting in Gaza's reconstruction. “International donor organizations will begin their work as soon as a ceasefire is secured. We want the rebuilding of Gaza to start as quickly as possible. To achieve this, a fund will be established with contributions from donor countries,” Nazzal stated.

Ceasefire and Reconstruction Efforts

Addressing the current ceasefire agreements, Nazzal remarked that the primary reason Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the truce was not pressure from US President-elect Donald Trump but the success of the resistance in Gaza. However, he acknowledged that Trump did exert pressure on Israel during the negotiations.

Nazzal emphasized that Hamas is committed to upholding the terms of the ceasefire but remains prepared for any developments. He also highlighted Turkey’s significant role in facilitating the agreement, even though Turkey was not directly involved in the negotiations.
