A senior delegation from the Palestinian movement Hamas has arrived in Egypt to participate in discussions on the next steps toward a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, according to Egypt’s state information service.
“Hamas representatives have arrived in Cairo to review the implementation of the ceasefire deal in Gaza and begin negotiations on the second phase of the agreement,” Egyptian TV channel Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya reported, citing the state information service.
The agency also emphasized that Egypt is maintaining contact with all parties involved and is working to accelerate progress towards the next stage of the agreement. Egyptian officials are meeting not only with Hamas, but also with Qatari and US mediators. Both Cairo and Doha are focused on ensuring that all necessary guarantees are in place for the successful implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire deal, the Egyptian agency added.
Hamas has not yet commented on the visit.
