Hamas Does Not Rule Out Renewed Fighting in Gaza

14 March

The Palestinian movement Hamas has stated that while it does not seek a return to war in Gaza, it is prepared for such an outcome if necessary. This was confirmed by Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem.

“We do not want another war in Gaza, but if Israel resumes its aggression, we will have no choice but to defend our people,” Qassem wrote on his Telegram channel. He also noted that negotiations in Doha regarding a ceasefire agreement are ongoing, with mediators involved. Hamas, he emphasized, remains committed to previous agreements and is ready to move on to the next phase of the deal.

A new round of indirect talks between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Qatar and involving US officials, began in Doha on March 12.

On January 15, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the release of hostages and the establishment of a ceasefire. The deal, structured in three phases, took effect on January 19, with the first phase concluding on March 1. During this stage, all 33 Israeli hostages covered by the agreement—including those who were deceased—were returned. In exchange, Israel released more than 1,500 Palestinians, some of whom were deported from Palestinian territories.
