Hamas Hopes Doha Talks Will Lead to Second Phase of Gaza Ceasefire

12 March

The Palestinian  group Hamas hopes that the latest round of indirect negotiations with Israel in Doha will result in the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, according to Asharq TV, citing a Hamas representative.

"We hope that today’s round of talks will lead to tangible progress and the beginning of the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza," the Hamas official stated.

According to Al Arabiya, Hamas is set to hold consultations with mediators in Doha on March 12. US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is also expected to arrive in the Qatari capital.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office previously announced that Israeli negotiators would travel to Qatar on March 10 in an effort to advance discussions on a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement ended on March 1, during which 33 hostages, including the remains of deceased individuals, were returned to Israel. In exchange, Israel released more than 1,500 Palestinians. However, on March 2, Netanyahu halted humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza and closed all border crossings, citing Hamas’s refusal to accept Witkoff's proposal for extending the truce.
