Hamas has accused Israel of deliberately ramping up attacks on the Gaza Strip during Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan.
"The government of the war criminal [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu continues its genocidal war against civilians in Gaza on the second day of Eid al-Fitr. Over the past 48 hours, more than 80 people have been killed, and over 300 others have been wounded," the group stated in a message on its Telegram channel. "Our people refuse to be subdued or stripped of their rights. We remain steadfast in our struggle to protect our land, uphold our principles, and fight for freedom, an end to the occupation, and self-determination."
On March 18, Israel resumed military operations in Gaza, launching large-scale airstrikes and effectively ending a ceasefire that had been in place since January. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office defended the move, citing Hamas’ alleged rejection of proposals presented by mediators, including US special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Israeli government claimed the objective of the operation was to secure the release of all hostages. Meanwhile, Hamas placed full responsibility for the renewed fighting on Israel and the United States.
