Hamas Representative Says Israeli Actions Hinder Peace Talks

11 April

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has undermined the prospects for a truce in Gaza by orchestrating the murder of the sons of Hamas politburo chairman Ismail Haniyeh,  Hamas official  Basem Naim told Al Jazeera.

According to him, Netanyahu is "actively working to sabotage or diminish any possibility of achieving a ceasefire agreement." Naim further claimed that under pressure from the US, the international community, and the Israeli public, Netanyahu is resorting to "all other underhanded tactics, including the killing of children, spouses, or leaders."

On April 10, the Hamas leadership confirmed the death of Haniyeh's three sons and four grandchildren in an Israeli military strike on a refugee camp in northern Gaza. Condolences were extended by Presidents Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, and the Lebanese Hezbollah party.

The Israel Defense Forces press service also confirmed the death of three sons of the Hamas politburo chairman in Gaza. Ismail Haniyeh himself is currently residing in Doha.
