Hamas to Provide Full List of Hostages as Talks Progress

14 April

The Palestinian group Hamas has reportedly agreed to share comprehensive information about the condition of all Israeli hostages currently held in Gaza, according to Al Arabiya. The report, citing unnamed sources, suggests that Hamas is ready to release more hostages than initially expected, though the exact number was not disclosed.

The potential release would happen in two stages following a coordinated timeline. Al Arabiya also noted that Washington may be prepared to pressure Israel into accepting a new truce proposal for Gaza. The matter of whether senior Hamas leaders will be allowed to remain in the enclave has reportedly been postponed for later discussions.

On Saturday, Hamas confirmed it had sent a delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, one of the group’s top figures in Gaza, to Egypt for continued negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire. The group plans to hold talks with mediators from Egypt and Qatar.

Egypt’s Proposal

On April 18, the Palestinian agency Maan, known for its close ties to Hamas, reported that Egypt had put forward a new proposal to end hostilities. The plan includes the release of eight or nine hostages by Hamas—among them, dual Israeli-American citizen Idan Alexander—along with the remains of eight deceased hostages.

In return, Israel would release several hundred Palestinians, including 150 serving life sentences. During a 50-day ceasefire window, humanitarian aid would resume flowing into Gaza. That pause could be extended to 70 days to facilitate indirect negotiations on a broader agreement, which envisions a permanent end to fighting and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.

Maan indicated that Israel is likely to accept the Egyptian proposal, though Hamas has yet to officially respond.

According to the latest data from Israeli authorities, 59 hostages remain in Gaza. Among them is Maksim Kharkin, a native of Donbas with close relatives holding Russian citizenship.
