Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris emphasized that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution must involve equal security measures for both sides. During a televised debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump, Harris highlighted the need to ensure safety for both Israelis and Palestinians.
“We must outline a path toward a two-state solution that guarantees security for the people of Israel while ensuring the same protections for Palestinians. But let me be clear: I will always support Israel's right to defend itself, especially in the face of threats from Iran and its allies. However, we also need a two-state solution that allows us to rebuild Gaza, giving Palestinians security, self-determination, and the dignity they undeniably deserve,” Harris stated.
As Vice President, Harris also drew attention to the loss of innocent Palestinian lives, including women and children, during the conflict in Gaza. She called for an immediate end to violence, urging for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
The debate, organized by ABC in Philadelphia, was broadcast live across major American news networks. It may be the only round, as Trump and Harris have yet to agree on further debates before the November election.
