24 August 2022

Rosatom is ready to support the IAEA mission to Zaporizhzhia NPP, including logistical support. This was said during a meeting in Istanbul between Alexei Likhachev, Rosatom Director-General, and Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director-General.

"Alexei Likhachev and Rafael Grossi discussed in detail the whole range of issues related to the planned IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. It was confirmed that the Russian side shares the IAEA director-general's intention to conduct such a mission in the near future, as soon as the military situation on the site allows, and is ready to provide all possible support, including logistical support, in its organization," Rosatom's press service said in a statement issued Wednesday.

During the talks between Likhachev and Grossi, the report said, the Russian side emphasized the priority tasks of ensuring the security of nuclear facilities in Russia and Ukraine in light of the incessant shelling of ZNPP by Ukrainian armed formations and sabotage actions against the Kursk nuclear power plant. "The safety of nuclear facilities, wherever they are located, has always been and remains an absolute priority for Russia," Rosatom's press service said in a statement.

The meeting was also attended by Alexander Trembitsky, Head of Rostekhnadzor, and Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna.
