Yemen's Houthi rebels have condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza and vowed to continue their military escalation in support of the Palestinian people, according to a statement from the political office of the Ansar Allah movement.
“We strongly condemn the renewed Zionist (Israeli) aggression in Gaza and the horrific massacres being committed. We reaffirm that Yemen's armed forces will continue military escalation in support of Gaza and the Palestinian people until the aggression stops and the blockade is lifted,” the statement reads.
Ansar Allah emphasized that Israel’s renewed strikes on Gaza come amid a blockade and widespread famine affecting nearly two million Palestinians in the enclave.
In January, Israel and Hamas, with mediation from Egypt, Qatar, and the US, agreed to a ceasefire, but the first phase ended on March 1. A day later, Israel blocked humanitarian aid deliveries and shut down all border crossings to Gaza.
On March 7, Israeli news outlet Ynet reported that IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi approved a new offensive plan for Gaza. The following day, Israel’s political leadership, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered the military to prepare for the resumption of combat operations.
On March 18, the Israeli army confirmed that it had launched large-scale strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza. Meanwhile, The Times of Israel, citing Netanyahu’s office, reported that Israeli forces were ordered to act decisively against Hamas after the group refused to release hostages captured in October 2023.
