The Yemeni Houthi forces, part of the rebel Ansar Allah movement, have announced that they are at the “highest level of readiness” to launch strikes against Israel, Mohammed Nasser al-Atifi, the Defense Minister in the Houthi government and commander of the rebel forces, said.
During a meeting of Ansar Allah's military leadership, which was broadcast by the Houthi-owned Al Masirah TV channel, al-Atifi stated, “The Yemeni armed forces, with their various formations, are at the highest level of readiness to strike painful blows deep inside the Zionist entity [Israel].” He added that the armed forces have received “clear directives” to develop effective strategies to counter the challenges posed by Israel to the region and Yemen.
Al-Atifi further mentioned that the Houthi forces have identified specific targets within Israeli territory that could be attacked using missiles and drones. He emphasized, “We assure everyone that the inevitable response of the resistance axis to the crimes of the Zionist enemy is approaching.”
This escalation in the Middle East follows the assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh, the chairman of the politburo of the Palestinian Hamas movement, in Tehran, and Fuad Shukr, a commander in the military wing of Hezbollah, in Beirut. Iran, along with Hamas and Hezbollah, has blamed Israel for these incidents and has vowed to retaliate. The Iran-backed Houthis have similarly expressed the need for a military response to Israel's actions.
