Identification of Terrorists Who Received Combat Training Abroad Tops Agenda at CIS Special Services Meeting

The forthcoming meeting of the heads of special services within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will primarily focus on the critical issue of identifying terrorists who have undergone combat training abroad. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Bishkek and was announced by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the Russian Federal Security Service.

 

The 54th meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services is set to convene on May 24 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, as per the PRC.

 

According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), the primary agenda of the meeting will revolve around developing unified approaches to assessing security threats to CIS countries and enhancing cooperation among intelligence services to neutralize these threats. Special emphasis will be placed on formulating joint measures to identify and thwart the activities of individuals who have received combat training abroad and are aiming to destabilize the situation or incite violent changes to the constitutional order within CIS member states.

 

Additionally, participants will deliberate on enhancing information exchange in combating terrorism and religious extremism, including within the framework of the International Data Bank on Countering Terrorism, which operates under the auspices of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee.

 

The CIS Anti-Terrorist Center (ATC) is slated to present a comprehensive report on the outcomes of the 2023 implementation of the CIS member states' cooperation program on combating terrorism and other forms of violent extremism for the period 2023-2025. Furthermore, various working groups under the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services will convene to discuss specific areas of focus.
